warlock i have not seen one for years but the ones i have seen were the same as the cte 747, use 4x ms1307 mosfets making around 100w max fm or ssb with 10w input, they are not biased for ssb use and sound crap on ssb like any class c amplifier, a much better choice would be the rm-kl203 which are biased for ssb make a little more power and sound ok.

I totally agree with that. Mine's been excellent, and it doesn't get overly hot either. I think it's the mosfet tranny that makes it perform so well.wa10 wrote:a much better choice would be the rm-kl203 which are biased for ssb make a little more power and sound ok.

Had one a few years back. It was good. It's sold under a few names. Mine finally blew up though... whereas the RM stuff tends not to.

Bit late for a reply to this thread but the 747 has the RM 203 board insidewa10 wrote: 02 Jul 2009, 18:24 warlock i have not seen one for years but the ones i have seen were the same as the cte 747, use 4x ms1307 mosfets making around 100w max fm or ssb with 10w input, they are not biased for ssb use and sound crap on ssb like any class c amplifier, a much better choice would be the rm-kl203 which are biased for ssb make a little more power and sound ok.

The original cte747 was nothing like a kl203 inside, the later ones may be the same.

I used a cute 747 for a long time but at around 4 Watts input it would do around 80 Watts on FM.
