There is life in Shropshire/ Worcestershire !

Post by KILLERPARSNIP »

Hello all,

I temperately wired my old battered Comtron CB40f into my spare car ( was the wife's) and swapped the antenna from a 2 meter 1/4 wave to an old ( 1970's/80's) bent up and cut too short ( had to ad a little wire on top) Valor Halfbreed (I was using it on 10 meters about 15 years ago) First call on the 19 and I got a reply from Darren /Maverick who was travelling about 4 miles away from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster I spoke with him for 10 minutes or so up to about 8ish miles away and then was joined by Phil Wibberly Wobbly wellie wanger in Sion between Stourbridge and Kidderminster ( 10 miles ish) away. I learnt a few things from this which was 1 CB is still alive 2 its surprising what 3.5 watts can do with a simple antenna ( great as I prefer stealth operating so am a little restricted from home) and it's surprising how good the signal holds up to a mobile on 27Mhz compared to VHF ! 4, It's great to be able to talk freely unlike Amateur radio . This may seem unremarkable to most but I enjoyed it so much I have now made the installation permanent and just needed to get it out.
Now to set something up in my man cave on my allotment !
