What is the DMR echo test talk group

Post by StormShadow »

What is the DMR Parrot echo test talk group for UK...

What is TG98 used for... is that the same?

Am I right in thinking its TG9990 for the echo test?

Thanks

Hi,

TG98 is a normal Simplex Channel. It's called "Radio Test", but there is no Automatic parrot.
You just do some Radio or Audio tests - but you need an Opponent Station to listen and to answer.
Or a 2nd DMR Transceiver to listen on your own.

TG9990 is a parrot talkgroup instead. You can transmit and you'll get your Audio back by the parrot within some seconds of Delay.
I'm Not 100% sure, but I think it's Not guaranteed that you local DMR repeater also offers TG9990. You just Need to test it on each repeater if there will be the answer of the parrot.

For this my Openspot 4 PRO hotspot has another parrot TG on its own. It's TG9999. Here the hotspot gives the parrot reply 100%.

Maybe another hint I just read on an Austrian DMR group:

TG9990 on repeaters work on TS2 (not on TS1).
Maybe this could also a reason why it might not work sometimes.

I need to re-check my codeplug of my Anytone AT-878UV2+ as well, I guess. :D

TG98 is on TS1
TG9999 (Openspot hotspots) can be on TS1 or TS2, here the result is the same.

Thanks, I thought TG98 was but wasn't 100% I've got TG98 under Radio Test when I tried it on the repeater nothing happened but if TG98 is for simplex only then that would explain why. I will put TG9990 into my radios. Just trying to sort out some code plugs on a few DMR ex-business radios. I want to maximize there usability for DMR.

The DMR "Parrot" on Brandmeister is a Private Call to 9990. Note, not a talkgroup, but a private call. It will not work if a call is made to TG9900.

Technically, parrot calls are made to, in the UK, 234997. 234 being the UK MCC number, and 997 being the Parrot suffix. But 9990 will work as well. Both are made as Private Calls.

TG98 (talkgroup now, not private call) on Brandmesiter is quoted as Radio Test. This, as posted above, is not an automated system. Any call made on BM TG98 depends on someone monitoring that TG that is willing to come back to you, to give you a report. Whilst the TG name is "Radio Test", its really a DMR technical discussion TG.

Which Time Slot you make any call on is globally irrelevant. Its only relevant to your repeater and the convention it follows. Parrots on 9990 or test calls to TG98 will work equally well on either timeslot. Which timeslot is preferred is down to your repeater keepers preference, but even then, that can be over-ridden. If your keeper wants to keep TS1 for a certain TG, and would like you to make your Parrot calls on TS2, fair enough. But your parrot calls will work equally well if you use TS1

Many thanks, I tried TG9990 yesterday and it worked. I wont worry about TG98.
