Editing software?
Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows of any decent and free software that can be used to edit audio? I am after being able to remove / clean up background noise, alter treble / bass levels, that kind of thing? Cheers - Barney

RE: Editing software?
Sony Soundforge is excellent, use personally and is great. expensive as hell to buy mind, but I am sure a careful search of certain sites will result in a download being available on a "long term trial" ah-hem, cough cough. We obviously don't condone software piracy round these parts, only the convential pirating with the parrots, hooks and mi-harties! Yaaarrrggghhhhh

Or you could try Audacity, which is a free package.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Not used it myself but i believe its pretty good and has a hell of a lot of features. Plus you cant argue with the price

RE: Editing software?
Thanks james, I have looked at this and while it looks good for recording and editing ( cutting / pasting ) I didn't see any features to alter the actual sound as in quality, background noise etc. As you say.. you can't argue with that price though
I believe I have an appointment with bit torrent later, purely for educational purposes of course - ahem, cough. Damn....I got your cough now Weetabix

RE: Editing software?
I used to use Cool Edit Pro, dunno if still available but has been repaged as Adobe Audition (?) but it was powerful and good at what it did, it would be worth scratching about for....

I used that too. Good software.
I used it to convert vinyl into mp3's, by recording it onto Minidisc onto hi-fi separates. And then using Musicmatch set to record from the Line In recording into mp3 in real time. Once that was done, used Cool Edit Pro to clean up the sound.
Worked a treat...

Just to let you guys know of a nice free audio editing program.. http://www.wavosaur.com/ this allows you to edit in depth and there are loads of editing plugins available, just look for VST plugins.

Try Wavelab. It's not too resource heavy like the other programs. I used to produce music and found this an essential part of my suite of audio programs. Again is available out there using the methods above.

Re: Editing software?
If you just want to clean up background noise and tweak sound levels, I’d check out some of the newer programs that are meant for beginners but still give decent results. I used to mess around with Audacity and it gets the basics done, but the interface always felt a bit clunky to me, especially for more advanced stuff like noise removal. I tried a handful of others, but most were either way too complicated or wanted a steep license fee.
Lately, I’ve had a lot of luck with movavi for simple audio and video edits. It has some easy AI tools for background noise removal, and adjusting bass/treble is super straightforward. Even if you’re not doing video, the audio side of things is nicely set up.
