The Cept Band. Did anyone ever use it ?

Not here in central Scotland nope. The amount of rigs that must have been butchered to add that band. Why ? By the time cept was made legal CB was pretty much dead on its feet. And its more dead these days than it ever was. And people still have it added to their radios to this day..

Use it most days..but only for digimodes and experiments in propagation...

Yes, quite well used in my area when piggy back chip mods were popular. Was a cheap way of getting off UK FM for a bit of peace if you only had a straight 40 channel rig.

Some chip mods were quite neatly done like on the Uniden 100 / 200's for example.

Some rigs converted ok. Some not so like the amstrad. The mod was always a bit of a compromise power & frequency wise. You'd either be off slightly on mids or UK FM

Got a Thunderpole TX with both bands. There are no FM users closer than 12 miles to me and all I hear on CEPT are Europeans and the Superbowl nutters.

Back in the 70's and 80's yes but obviously not as Cept, *this bit is a bit sketchy* i seem to remember when the first legalised it in the late 80's you needed a new radio ie not multi-standard or anything modified and it was a bit of a flop around here.

Think I'm correct on the following...

CB/27/81 - First uk legal band sets.
PR27GB - First uk legal mid band sets before June 1990.
Cept PR27GB - After June 1990.
PR/27/94 - Amended uk fm radio standards.
PR/27/97 - Type approved 'dual band' radios (UK and cept)
2014 - multi mode use (legal on cept band only) allowed using type approved sets.

I used to use it back in the early 1990's, there were a few people on in the evenings.

It was often too noisy to use in the day time due to foreign skip/sideband.

Many of the radios that were legal back then seemed to be deaf on RX due to the extra rules they had to meet on the receiver section.

The radio I had was a Midland 77-104 and that was deafer than the UK version.

I have an old CB nmag somewhere from 1987, they tested the first UK legal PR27GB radio, a Uniden PC-404
