Not a Mod as such but I remember a pal who lived with his parents at the time going into the loft with a silver rod and a hammer and punching a hole in the roof slates with the hammer and then he stuck his silver rod through the hole. Job done. Needless to say his dad went bananas. Now that is a bodge :D

This is a Uniace 100 which I have here now.

Check out the quality of installation of the noise squelch. Amazingly the radio works quite well, but there is no squelch at all just constant white noise.

I am going to rip it out and wire it back to standard when I get the time.

Was listening to the Dimwit net on T5 and one of them was rather excited talking to his mate , he was using a A99 and a good quality coax M&P or ? i cant rem , but his SWR was 1.5 and he couldn't bring it down and he wanted 1.1 , rather excitedly he was saying he has fixed it and all he did was take off the good quality coax and replace it with 50m of the thinnest cheapest quality he could find and his SWR went to 1.1 without touching the A99 and he would go round at the weekend and do the same to his mates {bnghd}  :D

Their coax will probably perform better as a wire antenna than the A99 anyway

A wee bit off topic ( I will send myself a warning later) :D

The guys who count a mode change as a new set of channels. My rig has 1000 channels

Y'know forgot about that, good one.

40ch AM + 40ch FM + 40ch USB + 40ch LSB + 40ch CW + 5 splits on each mode. Multiply that per band: SSL, SL, Low, Mid, High, SH, SSH = 1575 channels!!

err... hang on.... USB and LSB are different channels. One above and the other below the channel frequency They can carry two different conversations.

But you knew that...

Well technically yes. On 27.555 for example USB would be 27.558 LSB 27.552 give or take. But still within the same frequency range

I had a mate that did this. He bought some new coax, and because his SWR was a lot worse he went back the old coax.

I tried to explain that his SWR was the same on both, but he was getting better readings on the old coax because the reflected power was being lost.

It also explained why he managed to kill a couple of linears in quick succession (the real SWR was about 2.5:1)

Phantom Communicator (Aussie Cybernet) - Wrong knobs (Jaycar cheapies), NB and ANL front panel switches rewired for more channels, and 8 more extra channel switches mounted into the top of the case. How many channels does someone need?
