PMR 446 Radio DX reports September - December 2024

Post by MrWeetabix »

Please post all your 11m DX reports (Incl SWL) on this thread.

It doesn't have to be some exotic DX, just a decent good rag chewer or interesting setup, even just SWL. Just something you think is worth a share.

I got out to America yesterday on 4 watts indoor antenna on channel 6. Considering the indoor antenna and 4 watts I thought that was very impressive.

Any of you lot calling CQ on channel 7 and asking people to go up to 14 currently? I can hear you from Barnsley to Garforth but my little handy only goes up to 8 :D

I'm on a hill top near Tadcaster and I've just copied a chap called Nigel operating from County Durham. He heard me loud and clear on ch14 at S7. He's still there if anyone wants to bag him.

I'm using a Retivis R24 on 0.5 watt and the integral antenna.

This is mad. County Durham briefly picked up someone in Dorset.

Three post mania - it's a 65 mile contact on half a watt. I'm well chuffed.

Tonight I screwed the Broadsword twig to my Retivis and went up my favourite hill. I just about made contact with a chap in Tong, Bradford who was plainly using better gear - I could hear him brilliantly but I was alternately clear or gone to him.

Still, we exchanged a few overs and my humble signal crossed Leeds to reach him - a distance of 16 miles.

A small but good crop from Garrowby Hill on the Wolds today (240m height) I was there with the Retivis 24 (0.5w, stock antenna) and the roll of honour in order of distance is:

* Unnamed gentleman, York, 12 miles. Radio5
* John "Bozzie", York, 12 miles. Retivis 10w. Loud and clear, slight static.
* John in Cawood, 19 miles on a Quansheng handheld. Quiet, choppy at times but perfectly understandable
* Martin, mobile M62 at Knottingly, 28 miles. Short contact, static and choppy but mostly understandable
* Unnamed gentleman, mobile M1 at Dodworth, 43 miles. Motorola 12w and 5/8 whip. Clear for a few overs before disappearing

A mention in dispatches to the business users and kids :D

All are on the same radio - the RT24. 2nd February was with the stock antenna. The rest are with a replacement antenna - the RHD771. It looks like the Nagoya 771 and performs very well. Another evening I was hitting Ilkley Moor from Woolley Edge at R5 S9 with it, same radio. I've been amazed at what this combo does.

The RT24 was £24 for a pair and the RHD771 was £11.
