New station on Radio 4 Longwave 198khz !

Post by KILLERPARSNIP »

Just tuning around on an old broadcast radio and found Weekend Music Radio WMR from Scotland on 198khz agood signal in Shropshire just the slightest bit of noise, which is not bad for a ferite rod antenna ! Anyone else hearing them ? No mention on their site of the198khz broadcasts so it may be a re-broadcast. Some very interesting technical info is broadcast.

Just to add I could hear the station well on a 7 or 8 mile trip

Nice catch on a ferrite rod, that's a decent signal for 7 or 8 miles on the move.

No chance of 198 here in Chiang Rai of course, LW is pretty much dead air on the PL-330 apart from a couple of beacons late at night. I left it parked on 198 for half an hour last night out of curiosity and got nothing but the usual hash from the neighbour's inverter.

Do you know if WMR is running it from the old Droitwich site or something much smaller? If it's low power that range on a car radio is impressive.
