Could someone tell me why it is that I get a pattern of:

RxRx _ RxRx _ RxRx _ RxRx _ etc, etc

... where Rx is a nice strong (or even a not so strong) signal of 2secs, and _ is a 500ms drop out? I'm guessing at 500ms, but it's certainly less than 1 second.

This seems to be FM related, and does not occur when I'm listening to Aircraft (the AM signal).

It's kind of annoying more than anything else. And it's not that I like to snoop on what others are saying; in fact when I hear chatter of an evening that's clearly between guys that know one another, (on 2m, for the most part), I hit the Temp L/O, and continue my scanning. Signal and equipment checks are more interesting to me, and I get some idea about where these guys are and the Tx/Rx distance.

I also get this consistent pattern when there's just a carrier wave, as with 914.6000 MHz: hisss _ hissss _ hisss _ in 2sec, 500ms intervals.

I think not, becasue when I get out and about in my car (one of the reasons that I have a set-up that is portable) I get the same experience, regardless of where I park up. Also, would I not see a spike, rather than a drop out?

What I'm unsure about is if this is what I can expect from my gear, or if the Scanner has a fault, and as such should be replaced.

What I'm experiencing is the Close Call Interrupt:

• Close Call Pri (Priority) - checks for Close Call hits every 2 seconds, even during transmissions.

... the 2sec duration should have been the giveaway for me.

Issue resolved.

Those wind turbines can cause issues on high frequencies
