The other day i was browsing old school scanners on ebay. yupiteru. Realistics etc. And couldn't believe the prices being asked. Ive been away from scanning since the 90s. So what is out there that you can actually receive on an old analogue scanner to warrant the prices being asked ? Or is it just the usual chancers who ask £200 for a Fidelity 1000 ? By rights old scanners and CB's should be selling for a fiver

Maybe its a nostalgia driven market. Because buyers had one back in the day or their dads did. It beats me

I think its down to having a fully working scanner. a lot of the old scanners with the plastic keyboard membrane wear out. etc due to use and abuse.
So when you do find a genuine 100% working unit, they seem to command top dollar, despite them being 20 years old etc.
Im amazed at the prices a lot of old £5 cb's are now going for 10 times that now, and again there's no real functional demand for them as nobody is on the radio most places in uk are graveyards these days.
Hand em down to ya grand kids, they will be worth a fortune when they get old

I've got a Grecom PSR-295. It's started muting - it does it if I press the case with thumb and fingers or push on the BNC socket so I'm guessing something is loose or failing.

I'm wondering if it's worth finding someone to look at it or just consider that it's had it's day. It's more well built than my XLT125 and it would be a shame to see it go.

I got an AOR 3000A and a Yaesu FRG 9600 both set up here, Either running on my Discone or my X200 and there is nothing to listen to except aircraft or the chavs working in the local 'spoons' on PMR. I see how much my two radios fetch on ebay sometimes and I do wonder why and then I think of putting them on there so I can retire and buy a 68 Ford Mustang

I do wonder if I'm not better off getting a RTL-SDR dongle for my laptop with the software to decode digital signals but I like to get out and about with radio. Trouble is, digital handheld scanners cost a small fortune and if encryption gets fashionable, that's also wasted money.
