Growing up in the 70's l became more interested in entertainment radio than TV and books. Listened to many of the stations but there was three of them l ended up listening to most of the time as a youngster.
Pennine Radio, Radio Luxembourg, and Radio 1 when l was a teen. Towards the end of my teens l used to listen to James Whale (R.I.P) on Radio Aire most evenings as well.
Out of them all Luxembourg was my favourite, l was a bit fascinated on how l could only hear it on a night and not during the day, and when tuned in how it would fade in and out, sometimes really bad depending on the weather, and sometimes not much fade at all. The times l spent listening late at night with an earphone so as not to alert my parents as l should have been sleeping on school days, sometimes falling asleep and waking up in the morning with just hash coming out of the earphone.
Thinking of EMF radiation today Radio Lux put out 1200kw's on Long Wave in the 80's, heck that was some juice.
It's all radio.

Yep 1.2 MW output on 1440 - the mighty 208. I listened to it sign off for the last time - it was around a chrismas or new year.
No matter how strong it was it still suffered from selective carrier fading - which is why it was distorted some of the time. If only synchronous AM detetection was around then - it would have been a good listen.
Even with the endless ads aimed at teen girls, and despite most of the presenters being a considerable distance up their own arses.

Re: It's all radio.
I used to love hearing the selective fading on the Am band. There was something magical about that. There is very little to be heard on the AM broadcast band these days. Absolute Radio recently closed their AM transmitter. Think it was on 1215 Khz. Sign of the times. Running a high powered AM transmitter isn't cheap. I recently invested in a DAB radio because there was nothing on analogue worth listening too.
Sadly radio's days of being king are long behind us

I used to listen to Radio Canada International as it was a good signal for my crude gear as a kid, I got my first ever QSL card from them in 1971, they used to announce the lottery results on a Sunday night and I used to naively think how hard is it to pick 6 numbers to win a zillion Dollars.
