Hi just bought a Wouxun KG699e and it comes with a wideband aerial .I havent yet heard anyone on it as i live in a ground floor flat in Kettering and even took it out mobile using the standard wideband aerial so my question is which is a reasonable priced handheld 4m aerial which performs well .... any help would be appreciated

I can't really answer that one either, as I'm in the same boat. I have had it hooked up to a mag mount on the car a few times, but local QSO's are thin on the ground, although there are a few local 4m nets which I am trying to perpetrate.

No reason why you couldn't try rigging up a dipole though, and hooking that up. I believe these radios are quite sensitive, based on reports I read when purchasing it. And a fellow colleague who also has one, reckons it is excellent, having worked some very long distances on it - again with an external antenna on the car.

I believe there are arrow-type antennas which are suitable for this, on 4m which might be worth giving a go? Cracking radio - but you'll have to stoke up some interest in the band, although I've found local amateurs very enthusiastic to use it!

you need to get outdoors. I regularly make contacts in excess of 10 miles range on 2m with my baofeng handy. the wouxuns are meant to be better. you may just have to keep trying.
