RED 10 Team Radio Old - New??

Hi all,

During displays with the reds, we all know PA commentary is relayed via the Team radio from Red10.

Whilst the radio is visible for all to see who attend and to those who record/livesteam the shows, I cannot figure out what they are now using.

In the past they have used a WD FSG7016 UHF AM Hand Held Transceiver to pass safety messages to the team (Typically R1).

It seems they have switched to an alternate type (probably due to age, parts such as batts etc...) but I don't know what they use.

Can anyone please comment if they know what they have moved to?

Yes, your correct. I discovered this yesterday from further researching around and comparing photos. Its an older style but still used and trusted H/Hd.

I know what your saying but these things are Military Spec/Grade and cost thousands, software and leads are restricted and the chances are remote. I was not in any way encouraging anyone to do anything stupid, dangerous or illegal.

The sets are in no way secret and are used in full view of the public.

Understood Mike. Thing is back in the day at the airshows AFAIK the signals you picked up on your UHF airband scanner during the display - "smoke...ON....nowwwww" - were from the aircraft themselves and so it would have been really easy for some 'bods' to jam the channel. No-one ever did but I'm sure they'd try now if it were that simple.

They still use the same system now? Their air to air comms is the same system all mil comms aircraft use, with a reserve channel always available and planned.
