First radio I had was gifted to me, a Fidelity 2000.
I also had the colt 320 dx at one point. Added super high and super low with crystals, widebanded with diode switched caps, fitted the FM parts, converted the CW board to a Roger beep, eepromed for ukfm, and all tuned by ear - best small radio ever.

The man who cut the cable off his hoover and used it to make a choke balun. A good performing antenna beats a clean carpet

When I moved out of my parents house many moons ago I took my 5/8 silver rod to my new house about 6 or 7 miles away on my mountain bike...Unassembled. That was fun

Looked into the original makers of the DV27 and it was H.M.P. ANTENNEFABRIK ApS who invented it back in the day apparently.Buick Mackane wrote: 06 Jan 2026, 14:08
So the DV27 predated legal CB. You learn something new each day![]()

If the DV27 predated the legal FM band then it must have been intended for the cept band. Surprised it had a one meg range to bring it up on to the legal FM band. Unless there was two different versions. Cept & Legal FM

Re: Your first CB radio ?
So a friend from school was the first one out of our circle to get a CB backend of 1979. he actually introduced me to CB for the first time. I can't remember what his rig was but l know his twig was a DV27 because l helped him SWR it when he put it into the loft from his bedroom.Buick Mackane wrote: 18 Jan 2026, 15:30 If the DV27 predated the legal FM band then it must have been intended for the cept band. I remember his mum and dad weren't happy because it was interfering with the TV and the neighbours one next door (AM for you) As he was up on CB he asked his folks for some money to buy a couple of TVi filters from the local CB trader and cured it.
Not long after l got my own first CB after enough pestering of my folks.

Re: Your first CB radio ?
My first introduction to CB was with a Shira 2 channel walkie talkie with my cousin he then bought a pair of Moonraker Master handhelds which he loanded me one... Every day we would meet up on channel 5 at 5pm and talk to each other but I yield for more, much more so I talked to a lady breaker in the village too who put me in contact with someone selling a realistic trc2001 which I still have this was hooked up to a dipole

Re: Your first CB radio ?
My first CB Radio was a Harrier CBX "I've still got it" 40 channels FM only. It cost me a fiver from the market. I then began to buy more CB radios, they would always be about 2 pound a few quid to about a tenner here and there mostly AM/FM sets sometimes SSB sets, I've always been a bit of a hoarder so I can never have just one of something and I was the same with PMR446 sets as well.
I was never into CB specifically, I just loved radio in general and CB was apart of that. My science teacher got me into Amateur radio when I was a kid.
