Thats not what i mean, my 590 has a built in mechanical relay for older linears, just wondered if the 450 had the same. Apparently not.MM0IMC wrote:The voltages generated by the amp could destroy the switching transistor in the rig fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time or parts available to build an external relay switching circuit, otherwise I would have done so.NoiseBoy wrote:Manually keying up a linear seems a bit crazy. Does the 450 not have a relay switched output?

Sorry for the misunderstanding there.NoiseBoy wrote:Thats not what i mean, my 590 has a built in mechanical relay for older linears, just wondered if the 450 had the same. Apparently not.
The quick answer is no it doesn't.

Use a dual pole push button - use one pole to key the radio and one pole to key the amp. The FT-900 has a PTT socket on the back - perhaps the '450 does too?

When I had the Z version in line with the FT-1000MP, I used two phono plugs, ALC connection for one between both and relay on amp to tx ground on the mp for the other. I am surprised that Yaesu have done away with the phono connectors, they made life easier unlike Kenwood with DIN plugs.
Ian, that should just about help you finish off your dxcc, it's a handy bit of kit to have when you need it.

What you running now Dave, are you still using an amp? I worked Madagascar on 10m a couple of days ago with 200W from the amp. I've packed it away though as the valves appear to be deteriorating and showing their age. I've emailed one of the guys at the club (Barry) and kept him informed, he was the one that loaned me it and told me about the problem with the valves in the first place.Mabinogion wrote:When I had the Z version in line with the FT-1000MP, I used two phono plugs, ALC connection for one between both and relay on amp to tx ground on the mp for the other. A pair of NOS 572b's will cost you £80, or less if you can find some sitting in a box in a blokes shed. If you plan to have use of the amp for a while it could be a worthwhile investment but i imagine the amp will need a fair bit of other work doing to it too?
Those valves are well known for being rugged, what makes you think they are gone?

Re: Yaesu FL-2100B - A Loaned Amp...
I was told they were going 'soft' when I was given a loan of it and the power levels seemed somewhat lower than they should have been. For the sake of the valves, I've put it back in it's box and will return it to the club the next time I'm up there. From an email I got from the guy whose worked on it before, there's been issues with that amp before.NoiseBoy wrote:A pair of NOS 572b's will cost you £80, or less if you can find some sitting in a box in a blokes shed. Ian, I still run with the FT-1000MP and an Acom amp in line (when required). Also the FT-857D barefoot and a FT-817ND. Just looking back my last log entry was early November last year. If my memory serves me correctly my FL-2100Z o/p with a new matched pair of valves ranged from abt 700w (80m), 550w (20m) to abt 350w (10m).MM0IMC wrote:What you running now Dave, are you still using an amp? I'm looking to buy an old FL-2100B or similar at some point, so I'd better start saving.

Ian, mine is away to a new home and doing a fine job there. I would suggest a FL-2100Z if you can, mine did top band to 10m including the WARC, essentially all you need. Even a Heathkit SB200 would be good. The Blackpool rally is coming up, start saving fast - piggy bank smashing time..MM0IMC wrote:Hi Dave,Mabinogion wrote:Ian, I still run with the FT-1000MP and an Acom amp in line (when required). I think either the B or Z model would do me. I'll have to wait a while though Dave, I got paid off at the end of November there.Mabinogion wrote:Ian, mine is away to a new home and doing a fine job there.
