extending antenna

Post by radiosification »

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PMR-446MHz-UH ... 1e6e2a4523

Has anyone bought one of these or had any experience of them? It looks good, but it seems like most of their other antennas are 45.5 inches long, and they claim to cover so many bands. 20m, CB, 30m, vhf...
Have a look at the list here:

And would someone tell me if that is technically possible or if they are just scamming people by buying masses of the same antenna and claiming it can cover all kinds of bands?

Its a very old design i rember buying one from Tandy, yes it will cover all the bands you mention if you extend it to the correct length for each of these bands, but to be honest dont bother, decide what band you want it for and buy one for that band.

But what I'm saying is, if they are all 45.5 inches, how can they cover so many bands?
It seems like they are all the same antenna.

It's extending, which means you can have it at half height for one band, then fully extend for another, It would work but it's not going to be as good as a few separate dedicated antennas.

Yes so if you want to use it on 446 you extend it to 115mm and so on for each band, so altering its length each time you change freq.

Ah ok I think I get it now.
I was under the impression that you had to extend it fully.

Nobody appears to make an antenna purely for 446
