Apologies if this has been posted before though I didn't find it in a search. So basically I bought an SS9900 and I'm not liking it's setup. My question is can I program the channels in 5kc steps? I'd need to go and buy a cable so want to see if it can be done before I waste my time. I like the radio but the way it's set up is frustrating me. I'd probably remove some of the bands too because continually pressing a button to skip through them wears thin quickly.

It's a nice little radio but why on earth it's been set up to mimic channel spacing from the 70s is beyond me. If this can be done I think I'd really enjoy the box. Your help would be appreciated.

Can always go into the menu and change the setting from CH for channel,to FR for frequency without a cable.

Once you do this you can push the vco/channel change for a few seconds until you get one of the digits that will actually be flashing/blinking on the frequency readout,and you can change the size of step by pushing the vco until you get the required step.

It won't go up in 5's but it will give you 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 + 0,especially when it gets busy and some are inbetween the 0 and 5/5 and 0.

You can skip through the frequencies easier if you use the up/down buttons on the original mic,but especially in steps of 1,thats how I set up the 9900 (V3) that I used as I didn't have a cable either ;)

Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,

Yes I agree cable is cheap.

But will I be able to achieve my goal? To program from 27410 in 5kc steps continuously up to 27.995?

I've been doing this and it's feels like a bodge. If I tune down 5kc it's only works on the frequency I'm currently on. Turning the selector reverts to the normal channel spacing.

So my plan would be to get the cable and reprogramming reach channel. That's of its even possible.

Of course it will work. You will need some time to program the channels, but it is possible.

Thanks again. That's all I need to know. I'm happy to invest some time to get the functionality I'm after. Without this I don't think I'd keep the radio which I'm otherwise happy with.

Or you could just sell it and buy another old school lincoln again !

I don't know about old school Lincoln , maybe old school TS50 or Alinco DX70. Nothing wrong with a Lincoln had one , and a Uniden 2830 as well as an Emperor Shogun.

I got myself a mint Alinco DX-70 a couple of weeks ago,and it is the first time I have owned one.

The DX-70 is connected up to an old Kenwood SP - 940 speaker and the rx on ssb is pretty good.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,

Great little radios with an excellent receiver. Actually much easier to get about the bands with compared to the faff with the SS9900. Hope it brings you plenty of contacts.

Thanks for that KIP.

First contact with the DX70 on SSB was a mobile station in Estonia,and the antenna used was a homebrew copper pipe dipole 30ft up in a horizontal position.

I wont say its a keeper as I have sold all of them in the past.

If you have changed from CH to FR in the menu it should be continuous throughout the frequencies,especially if you have it set up on the second last or last digit.

Got my cable in the other day so just need time to sit down and program the radio with the 5kc steps. I have been running the radio as you suggested and its much better. But I still find it slow to move about but less frustrating.
