Worth mentioning that I used to own & run (and do EVERYTHING) the local electronics shop in Chester, and we had a big selection of new and used CB radio gear. The shop is now long gone, but I kept some bits, including 2 of these aerials (amongst some others) because I like them for a variety of reasons, (and I'm now using one again).
We all remember the DV27, ok-ish, cheap, broke easily on tree branches etc.
Then there was what most folk call a "DX27". A much heavier affair, very obviously helically wound. A good performer but needed a strong mount.
Now I say "what most folk call a "DX27", because really it's proper designation was a "DX25 5/8 wave" (you knew that didn't you
Now a much much rarer beast was the DX27 1/4 wave. Still had the DV style banjo at the base, but was what looked like a very simple fibre glass whip, about 1.5 Mtr in length, with a nice taper to it. Actually, inside it had a thin centre core of fibre glass which then had a (thin) even helical coil of wire all the way from top to bottom. The whole thing was then coated in a nice tapered layer of (glossy black) fibreglass. The end result was a nice looking aerial, that not only worked well but was very strong, with just enough "give" in it to survive big lorries on "A" roads going the other way at 70MPH without ripping the mount off. The taper also keeps it from rocking about too much of course. They also stay safe on modern (better magnets) mag bases of 7" and even 6" types.
Just thought I would mention all that
