A certain UK retailer is selling a version of this radio for an extra £20 just as it has 2.5KHz steps.
Another site says that sets produced has these as standard - site has not contact details (weird eh?). Difficult to get a straight answer out of Wouxun...I think I found the chap that writes the English instructions for Chinese peoducts.
I have attached the info from the site and wonder if somebody with one of these could check their firmware version and see if they really do have 2.5KHz tuning steps as standard?
Mni tnx.

Re: Wouxun KG-UV8D tuning steps
I asked about this last year with a well known retail amateur radio shop and I was told that Wouxun don't supply these for the UK with 2.5 steps, hence why a bit more money for one if 2.5 steps are required as Wouxun make a charge for supplying them to UK dealers configured that way. However if you was to buy one direct from the many overseas traders who advertise on a well known auction site then you can get one that way and probably much cheaper, however good luck in receiving the radio in working order, getting it at all, and repaired under warranty if it goes wrong if buying one this way.

The 2.5khz step is an FCC requirement, not really any need for it in the UK

If you get just a YES or NO answer it will mean either you should already know the answer or you have proved yourself incapable of understanding the answer. Also if you think I need to explain what I type then perhaps you should realise your own limitations

Martin Lynch & Sons must think there is, he's offering UV8Ds at a £20 premium over the regular model with that feature. The site I referenced could have been in the USA which explains their findings, viz the feature is standard.Lumiya wrote:The 2.5khz step is an FCC requirement, not really any need for it in the UK
Wouxun did say they can customise the rigs to their retailer's requirements too.

So because MLS say it's worth a premium it must be the truth......

Re: Wouxun KG-UV8D tuning steps
FCC have started to bring in 7.5khz spacing hence the ability to program the Wouxons to a 2.5khz resolution. We don't have the congestion problem that they have so I doubt if ofcom will look into it for a long time. Also be aware that these requirements are not ham radio based but commercial requirements (Land Mobile frequencies).

I bet they have done their market research and have followed the capitalist maxim; something is sold for/worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it. I assume that they have had requests for the feature.Lumiya wrote:So because MLS say it's worth a premium it must be the truth......

They will know they have got it wrong if they do not sell any. The UK is full of people ready to pay over the odds for things which is why people get ripped off so often.
Personally, I think it is price gouging and they have gone down in my estimation.
