Ashton Under Lyne PMR446 Users

Post by AshtonMobileScanner »

Is there any PMR446 users in the Ashton Under Lyne area if there are feel free to give me a shout using callsign 26-TM-931.

I monitor all channels, and speak to anybody who is active on 446MHz.

Hope to hear people round here.

Thanks
Ash

*CHOKE*

Rarer than a rare thing...

To the OP: Depending on your range there are regular users on CH2 most evenings in the greater Manchester area. I've mentioned them elsewhere on the TM1 forum in the past and I know they've seen my post as we've discussed it on-air. Not all night, every night but often enough that they're usually on-air whenever I go looking...

They use ham-radio gear and/or modified taxi radios AFAIR but stay around the PMR frequencies even though some are licensed, so as not to cause interference to other local users.

They're occasionally harassed by the "band-police" (local hams with an axe to grind).

I'm licensed myself and have spoken to them using my PMR handhelds (they're quite close-by). Personally, I don't see them as a problem. They're staying off the ham-bands and not interfering with anyone that I'm aware of and they appear to be genuine, easy going ex-CBer's who have found the UK PMR frequencies a good way to escape from the idiots who inhabit 27.78125.

You might try monitoring CH2 in the evenings. I think I've heard them talking to others as far away as Stoke in the past.

no mate ...you heard it wrong with all the static!

they guy wasn't saying "I can't believe I am getting a QSO with Stoke"
what he said was "I will never get a QSO on this rubbish ...I might as well have a toke!"

bloody cannabis users ...hard to understand with all that mumbling

Looks like Dee has applied for a Tango Mike call sign. They normally take a week or so to arrange.

I'm in Dukinfield (just south of Ashton) and I occasionally have a scan around the 446 band. It's very quiet, even when I use my 4-ele beam and preamp. I don't have a transceiver for the band.
