And even if i stand on the roof of my car i dont think you will hear me from here, shame.

Whilst I appreciate the need for some degree of anonymity with regard to location in these forums, either to avoid your equipment being targeted by thieves or because your activities might occasionally stray outside the bounds of the Wireless Telegraphy Act, entering something in the Location field is useful when others are trying to offer assistance or arrange contacts.
The level of detail provided can be anything from country (e.g. Scotland), region (e.g. North West), county (e.g. Rutland*), city/town/village (e.g. Northampton) or Ordnance Survey National Grid reference, Maidenhead QTH locator square, postcode, Latitude and Longitude coordinates etc. but something that you feel comfortable publicising would be useful.
*Which is the smallest county in England, Rutland or IoW?

Hello agian everyone... Long time no post, but I've been lurking. New baby daughter has been taking up WAY too much of my time.
I've managed to convince the other half to let me out tonight, so it's back up Halnaker hill for me. Not looking forward to the wind, though!
Hope to catch you then, iowbiker?

Surely Herm is not a county whereas IoW is a county of England although previously part of Hampshire.

I'll leave you to look that up yourself.Bogget wrote:Hmmmm.......................... so what is a county?
Herm is in the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the Channel Islands and so not in England. It is most certainly not a county either.

Please guys, if you want to discuss completely irrelevant things can you make a thread in the members lounge about it. Nobody here reading a thread about PMR446 wants to read about the size of a county and what the definition is of one.

I wonder if we have any 446 users in the channel islands, and your quite right it should not be on here i was bored and it was so quiet on here.
But i must say what is a county is quite interesting fi you look it up.
But anyway, i think if you was on top of the mountain on the isle of man you would be able to get to england and island from it as it has sight of both on a clear day, i would love to try.

I'm pretty sure that, at 2,000 feet (610 m), you could reach all four countries of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well as the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man itself from Snaefell with great ease. Apart from line of sight, the salt water would carry your signal much farther than over land.
I feel a DX-pedition coming on! What about the 8th of August (08/08)?
